Not to sound too down or anything… but I’m a bit of a cynic. If I preach that people are mostly bastards or else ignorant of anything but short-term gratification, does that mean I’m supposed to become one or the other?
I’ll go with fabulous. Hard to go wrong with fabulous.
Good point, and that’s the problem with one line aphorisms.
Thinking about this, I guess that I’d consider the statement “people are mostly bastards or else ignorant of anything but short-term gratification” to be the problem, and the “preaching” would be how you think this problem should be fixed.
I think that people are generally well-intentioned and trying to lead a good life, however they think a good life should look, and that sometimes this means that they are blinkered to the consequences of their actions on a larger scale. So, I “preach” simple solutions that hopefully lead to a better life.
Professionally I also “preach” that packaging and waste in general should be reduced.
It’s mostly about hypocrisy. Don’t tell someone to do one thing and then act completely differently.
